八坂神社の祭事であり、京都市内で１ヶ月間続く日本三大祭の一つ。
期間中、京都市内の各地で様々な祭事・行事が行われ、前祭・後祭の2度行われる「山鉾行事」はユネスコ無形文化遺産に登録される世界的行事となっている。

This festival is held as Yasaka Shrine and takes place over the course of a month, making it one of Japan’s three largest festivals. There are various events across Kyoto city over the course of this festival including Yamahoko Gyouji (float events) which is carried out before and after the festival. The Gion Festival is a registered UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
