村人を苦しめた大蛇を武士が退治したという伝承にちなみ、その伝承に農作物の豊作祈願を込めて行われる伝統行事で、「綱引き神事」は京都府の無形民俗文化財に登録されています。
武士姿の男性が大蛇の目に例えた的に向かって弓矢を射ます。その後神社の鳥居をくぐってすぐのところにある水路を挟んで、集まった住民による綱引きが行われます。綱は約１５ｍほどで大蛇を見立てています。住民は神社正面を東西に走る道路を境に、北チームと南チームに分かれ数回綱を引き合います。その勝敗でその年の豊凶を占います。

In association to the legend that the warrior defeated the great snake that tormented the villagers, it is a traditional event where they pray for good harvest, and the Tsunahiki ritual is registered as Kyoto-fu's Intangible Folk Cultural Asset.
An archer dressed as a warrior shoots an arrow at the target that looks like the snakes eyes. And after that, locals gather at the location where there is a small waterway after passing the Torii gate of the shrine. The rope is about 15 meters long, and represents the large snake. The residents line up along the road in front of the shrine that travels East to West, and divided into the North team and South team to perform the tug of war. They forecast the year’s harvest with the outcome.
